NUTRITION COACHING

COACHING PHILOSOPHY:

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition.

We do believe that nutrition is highly individual and should take into account your goals, lifestyle, preferences, and long-term health.

We believe in helping others create sustainable habits that focus on health, performance, and abundance rather than restriction.

If you’re looking for a list of “can” and “can not” eat items, we may not be the coaches for you.

We care deeply about the health of our clients and want to see them succeed, thrive, and improve their lives.

We don’t believe in restrictive diets, dieting as a lifestyle, or whiteknuckle compliance to unsustainable plans.

We want to help you be your best self and learn some things along the way.

Meet the coaches

gabby

I’m Gabby (she/her), the founder of GAB Strength, a coaching company dedicated to making the world a stronger place. I’m a queer, chronically ill, brown woman who believes in the transformative power of strength for all people.

I’m a national-level powerlifter, national-level strongman athlete, olympic weightlifter, strength and fitness coach, and awkward human who is focused on helping you become the strongest version of yourself. I’m absolutely obsessed with helping you become your best self - whether it is through adding kilos to your total, getting you ready for your first meet, improving your relationship with food, or helping you feel seen and heard in a world that often feels exclusive. I’m here to build stronger humans, in and out of the gym.

I found strength sports after a lifetime of being deemed “too much”, frustrated, unconfident, and lost. After a series of health issues and injuries, I started lifting weights in my college gym because I had to! My bones were so brittle that my doctors were concerned that if I didn’t start lifting, my quality of life would continue to suffer. It’s not fun to be a 20 year old who is so sick they can barely go to work! Lifting quite literally saved my health and I have turned that passion into a career. It’s been an incredible journey thus far and I’m glad you’re here!

My core values:

  • Strength in all things

  • Consistency

  • Real life shit & authenticity

  • Equity

  • Black lives matter, trans lives matter, & advocacy for human rights

  • Humanity

  • All people deserve the material conditions to survive and thrive

Brittney

I’m a Capricorn sun and moon, pisces rising, INFJ, anxiety-filled, queer, coffee fiend, and chunky powerlifter living in Richmond, VA with my partner and rescue bully, R2.

After years and years of trying to starve and hate my way into a smaller body and feeling totally out of place and unwelcome anywhere in “fitness”, I managed to stumble into powerlifting and began working my way toward making peace with food.

Now, as a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, my goal is to help others do the same by providing an inclusive and accessible space for all of those who feel excluded from mainstream fitness.

maDDIE

Hi, I’m Maddie, the newest member of the GABstrength team. I’m non-binary, 23, and as crunchy granola as they come. I’m a resident of Richmond, VA and a proud cat dad. You can usually find me mountain biking, walking around looking at Christmas lights, or drinking an oat milk cortado. My background is in exercise science, but I’m passionate about philosophy, neuroscience, broadway musicals, and art therapy.

I was a runner for seven years in middle and high school before I discovered strength training and never looked back. I was a powerlifter for six years and competed in six meets. For the past two years, I’ve been weightlifting and have competed locally three times.

I graduated in 2019 from Ithaca College with a Bachelor’s in exercise science and a CSCS certification. I concentrated on collegiate strength and conditioning in college but quickly realized that wasn’t my scene. I prefer a more intimate and individualistic approach and I’m a firm advocate for strength training for every population.

Having struggled with an eating disorder, anxiety and depression for many years, I pay special attention to the intersections between mental health, life stressors, and physical function. My goal is to help others become stronger in as many aspects as possible with the abilities and resources that they have.
