Supplements: Multi-Vitamins & ProBiotics #respectyourself
Disclaimer: I received these products for free from GNC in exchange for a review through FitFluential LLC. As always, all thoughts, opinions, and musings are my own. I've talked about some of the supplements I take before - mainly my Vitamin D but today I wanted to talk about two of the most popular supplements out there: multi-vitamins and probiotics. I was given the opportunity to try both thanks to GNC - so let's get to it!
I will say this upfront, I am not a regular multivitamin user. I try to get all my vitamins from food but let's be real, that doesn't always happen. The past month or so I was having a lot of stomach issues. Basically, my gut wasn't handling vegetables very well (I suspect from veggie/fiber OD from Whole30) so I had to stop eating them all.the.time otherwise, I was in a lot of pain. I had been thinking about purchasing a multi-vitamin to cover my bases while I let my gut heal and then, boom, GNC's Women's Ultra Mega One-A-Day showed up on my doorstep.
I'm pretty particular about what is in my supplements and I was impressed with what GNC's product had in it.
- 1,600 IU of vitamin D-3 for breast and bone health
- Hair, skin and nails blend with collagen and biotin
- Strengthens bones with 500 mg of calcium
- Fights cell aging with advanced antioxidant blend
I LOVE that it contains collagen and biotin. I supplement with those two items regularly so to have it in a multi-vitamin is even better - less pills? I'm not complaining! It also contains folic acid (SUPER important ladies), iron, and a nice b-complex. Also, they taste really good - I know, random BUT I was really surprised by how good they tasted. Overall - I think it's a great product (I could do without the lactose in the pill, I'm assuming that's for taste) and think it's a great value for the money.
I was also sent some probiotics which again, was timely since my gut was not happy. I've used probiotics on and off in the past and have never been really impressed with any product that I've tried. Some hurt my stomach, others felt like they didn't do anything to help but I was impressed with GNC'S Ultra Probiotic Complex 25 with Enzymes.
It is designed as a daily use probiotic which helps replenish all of your good gut bacteria through it's 25 billion live and active cultures plus it has ginger and enzymes for extra digestive support. (Source) It's hard to say if the probiotics actually helped with my gut issues, but I did notice that I didn't have that bloated, heavy feeling when I ate vegetables and was even able to tolerate decent amounts of lettuces like arugula (Sidenote: anytime I eat anything other than spinach or arugula, I look like I'm pregnant, and then get violently ill for hours. It's great) with no ill affect. Gut bacteria is important and I think the probiotic was a great "cover your bases" sort of product to help my stomach get back to normal. Again, I'd recommend it if you are having digestive issues or just need a little help getting some good bacteria.
Overall, I was definitely impressed with the products and would recommend checking them out! Happy Friday everyone!
